6 Things I Learned From Meeting Mark Wahlberg

As you most likely saw on my facebook page, I had the privilege of meeting Mark Wahlberg in Los Angeles a few weeks ago.  This was a major milestone for me for a few reasons:
  1.  It makes me one of a handful of South Africans who ever had the privilege of meeting Mark Wahlberg.
  2. He is one of my favourite actors of all time.
  3. I finally checked Los Angeles off my bucket list.
(If you are wondering why JT Foxx is in a Transformer suit, it is from his improv scene with Mark. See below.)

I always say it's not about who you know but about who knows you. So when I was presented with the opportunity to attend the biggest global event of the year in the entrepreneur world, Mega Success, alongside A-listers like Mark Wahlberg (and more I will reveal soon) I just had to accept.  As always, the JT Foxx Organization did more than live up to their name by putting on the most exclusive and memorable event of the year attended by 2500 highly successful entrepreneurs, tycoons and icons from 72 countries.

BUT enough about me and more about Mark...

How refreshing to experience this family guy's authentic and down-to-earth nature.

6 Things I Learned From Meeting Mark Wahlberg:

1.  The more authentic and grounded you are, the higher you will rise.
This statement may seem contradicting but this is where I have witnessed 99% of people fail on their way to the top.  Oh how humans love their egos and unfortunately, the bigger your head, the harder and faster the fall.  Some of the most successful people you will meet in life are the most authentic and humble.

2.  You can have it all.
Although Mark is away from home for long periods at a time while shooting movies, his family remains a priority.  He is a family man to the core and understands what is important in life. If you really want strong family relationships and be successful, you can do it.  It just takes commitment and planning.

3.  Always remember where you came from.
Mark had a very challenging upbringing many are familiar with but although some part of him probably doesn't want to be reminded of his negative past, he never forgets where he started, to count his blessings and give back to young people in similar situations.  He takes the bad and turns it into good.  Not just for him but for future generations.  For that alone, I salute him.

4.  Identify what grounds and fills you, then make it a priority.
Mark is an outspoken Christian and revealed during many of his interviews that he has a prayer room at home where he starts everyday.  Although Hollywood isn't famous for Christian values, Mark doesn't shy away from his faith because of other's opinions.

5.  Your life purpose is all about serving others.
Mark realises that he is not one of the highest paid actors just to be popular and famous. He recognises that his talents and this platform was given to him to make a positive impact in the world and takes this responsibility seriously.

6.  Branding is a consistent commitment.
Mark hardly goes anywhere without wearing one of his personal branded caps. Yes he obviously likes it too but there is also a strategy behind it.  If you want to create a lasting brand, create a brand you want to promote every minute of every day and you can be proud of.  If you are serious about getting your brand out there, you need to be consistent and 100% committed to it day in and day out.

7.  Yes he does have guns of steel, ladies!
I know.  I know.  The heading said 6 things... I just added a little bonus for the ladies ;D

I could go on for days but will end it here.
